SALTZBURG CARD or SALTZBURGERLAND CARD

Greetings,

Will be staying in nearby Schliersee, Germany which is a shorter drive to
get to Salzburg compared to Munich. Question about these two cards
which is more appropro for our few days in the area?

Want to do the following:
Grossglockner Alpine Road trip
Werfen Ice Cave and Castle there
Perhaps Halstatt trip
Saltzburg Sound of Music tour
Perhaps some Mozart locations
Mirabell Gardens
Tour the Fortress in Saltzburg and getting up to it
Hellbrun Palace
Few other local sites

How much time have you got for this trip, Tom?

There is no "t" in Salzburg. Booking transport and tours will be easier if you spell the name of the town correctly. Mirabell is public and there is no cost. I don't know anything about the cards you are talking about, but without information about the amount of time you have and the time the cards cover, it is impossible to advise you. You also don't mention what time of the year you are planning to travel. Generally, consider the cost of the major things you want to see, and see if the card comes out cheaper than the combined entry fees. Also, consider how much time it will take to see each thing on your list, as well as travel time to the site. A card that gives you entry to 25 things might look great on paper, but if you only have time to physically get to and see four of them, it's not so great. If you can give us more information about your plans, we can give you better answers.

Most of the things on your list are NOT covered by Salzburg card. We had a 3-days card and broke even with taking the cable car to the mountain top ... but probably won't get a card again.

Thanks Laura. We are only there a day and a half Nigel. I stand
corrected on my misspellings. After reading about the significance
of Salt to the area my mind blended this into the town and region
names.

Salt, in German, is Salz. There is a 'T' sound; it is part of the 'z', which is pronounced like 'ts', ergo Salts' or Salz. (BTW, the initial 'S' is pronounced like a 'z'. So it's Zaltsburg. "burg" is also not pronounced correctly, but I'm not going into that now.

I love Sound of Music, and have studied the tours vs the history of the movie. There is very little in any of the tours directly related to the movies. Avoid them.

Mirabell Gardens are easily accessible in town without a tour. You can take the incline to the fortress. Hellbrun Palace was not in the movie. The small gazebo now located at Hellbrunn was was only used for distant shots. The actual singing and dancing scenes were shot in a much bigger gazebo on a Hollywood sound stage.
