salt mines in Austria

I haven't been to Hallein but have been to Hallstatt, and I thought the Salt Mines there were very impressive. If you're going to be near Berchtesgaden, there are also Salt Mines there.

Hi, I have been to the salt mines in Hallstad as well - they are very interesting, and they take you on a very exhilarating ride through one of the tunnels! The best reason to visit, though, is Hallstad itself - one of the most picturesque little villages I had ever seen in Europe. It sits on a beautiful Alpine Lake, with the mountains rising in the distance. Definitely worth a visit.....

There is another salt mine near Hallstatt in Altaussee made famous in the movie The Monuments Men which has tours of the mine,well worth seeing.info@salzwelten.at The Hallstatt and Hallein tours are both good.
