The OBB train tickets include options to go to the salt mine for a cheaper price. How do you redeem it? You can reserve the ascent time through the Salt Mine website also. I don't mind booking directly to reserve a time slot versus waiting for stand-by (OBB)? Just wanted to get some feedback if possible. TIA!

IMHO, the price reduction is insignificant compared to the hassles (obtaining the ticket at a train station [no pdf via email], no reserved time slot for the salt mine tour).

I cant answer on the OBB question. I booked from the website and it could not have been easier. The tour itsself? Well there is almost nothing to do in Hallstatt but "look" with the exception of the mine; oh and i guess the little boats.
We took the tour about 4 months ago and it was pretty, very much, "Okay". Best part, other than the slides, was that it forced you to take the funicular up the mountain for the veiws from up there which really are quite spectacular. Despite the reputation of Hallstatt being an over crowded tourist he!! we really enjoyed it. Glad I went
