Rothenburg to Salzburg train tickets

I've purchased most of my legs online for savings, but it seems this leg I could wait till the day of and get the Bayern pass? There are 3 of us traveling, me and my two daughters, 15 and 17. Or should I commit and buy tickets now online. There is a fair for 33 euros for the three of us. Would the pass be the same (29 euros??)

The Bayern ticket is €23 for 1 person, €28 for two and €33 for 3 people. It is valid from 09:00 on weekdays and from midnight on weekends and is not valid on EC, IC or ICE trains. Normal tickets are in the range €23 - €57 per person. As you can see, the big savings with these Länder tickets come in when you are a group.
You can buy it online as a print-at-home ticket (on www.bahn.de ), or at a ticket machine either on the day or in advance. There is no discount for buying early, you might as well buy at the station. But, if you go to a manned ticket counter, Länder tickets cost slightly more (+ €2).

The fastest way takes just under 5 hours with 3 or 4 train changes and the walk up price is 117 euro total. The best savings fare would be 69 euro (29+20+20). The Bayern Ticket with local trains takes just over 5 1/2 hours with 3 train changes, so that is definitely the way to go.

You are all so helpful! So many times people are graciously looking up timetables and fares, etc. to respond. Thanks so much! My travel from Rothenburg to Salzburg is on a Wed. - so we'll take the local, enjoy the scenery for an extra hour, and save $$. Thanks again!

Most Rothenburg to Salzburg connections include a change of trains at Munich Hbf. With the Bayern-Ticket you are not committed to a specific train, so you can stop for an hour in Munich and get something to eat at the food court there or try one of the local restaurants. You could even take the S-Bahn (which is covered by the Bayern-Ticket) to Marienplatz, eat there, and then go on by S-Bahn to Munich East (Ostbahnhof) and catch the regional train to Salzburg from there.
