Road itenary from Venice to Viena via Budapest or from Venice to Vienna via Salzburg

Hi everyone,

Me and my husband are planning for a week.
We plan to fly into Venice, stay for a night and next day rent a car and plan to drive to Vienna via Budapest or Salzburg or Solvenia.

Can anyone help with the road trip itenary including:
1.) Which is more scenic drive to vienna via Budapest or Salzburg or Slovenia.
2.) Road Numbers and any special details about the roads.
3.) Places to stay enroute Vienna.
4.) Any link which can show the details of the roads to be taken.

What a shame you're only spending one night in Venice. It's more of a 3 day kind of place.
Your itinerary is very scenic. The problem is that all the cities you've mentioned are worthy of much more time than you have allotted.
You didn't say where you were ending your trip, however note that picking a rental car in one country and leaving it in another will come with very expensive charges as the car will have to be transported back to its home country.
I suggest you go to GoogleMaps.com and plot out the above itineraries--for specifics. I think you'll find the distances much farther than you think.
Venice to Budapest via Slovenia and on to Vienna via Bratislava would be a good itinerary. Especially if you returned to Venice by way of Salzburg, Innsbruck and thru the Brenner Pass. It would be more like a 3 week time period, however.

You do realize that it is a 7+ hour drive (at best) to Budapest? Keep in mind that if you drive only one of you will be able to enjoy the scenery. Relax, take the train to Vienna, then to Budapest. And you both can enjoy the scenery. Plus, figure you will spend at least 2 hours getting from your hotel in Venice to get back to the airport to rent a car, right? You can rent at the train station but the cars are at the airport (if memory serves). Plus you will have to pay a one-way drop fee along without any out-of-country fees. That is, IF you can find anyone who will let you do this.

If you decide on the train, book Trenitalia to Villach, then ÖBB from Villach to Vienna. It will be less expensive. And your timetables are much more flexible.

Travel safe!
