Restrictions train route Prague to Vienna?

Railjet is a type of OBB train, do you mean RegioJet? Without knowing I dates I can't do any digging, but bear in mind that RegioJet also operate buses on that route and show both on the booking site.

RailJet is not a train company. It is a type of train that ÖBB uses.

Your choices are OBB and the Czech company: https://www.cd.cz/en/ which should list the same trains but OBB may cost more. A third choice is the private rail company called RegioJet. They have their own trains and wont be listed on the other two sites. Be careful you dont pick a bus.

Buy early for best price options, but a month is generally early enough. Dont forget the seat assignment

The "restriction" warning that you get refers to the fact that there are works ongoing between Breclav and Vienna. The result is that some trains may have their schedule changed. Nothing to worry about. The moment you have a ticket Praha - Wien the railways commit themselves to getting you there. But you may end up with small changes in the schedule.

Me.crewe, Emily, Mr. E - Thank you for clarifying the various companies. I now get the distinctions. We were on different websites, rj, cd, and obb.

Mr. E - We did in fact purchase on RegioJet and it turned out to be a bus. We prefer the train and canceled right away with the plan to purchase train tickets, now a month out. Thank you.

Please note that there is no RailJet website. Also be aware that you should only use the websites of the official train operators.

Cris, few things more confusing than rail tickets. Check the Czech site first then OBB. Or RegioJet is okay for a train.

Basically a day or two before your trip check the schedule online again. The on line timetable should include any changes due to works. it is however possible that the changes are already shown, and that the warning is just to inform you of that.

I travel between Austira and the Czech Republic a few times. (The last time was this past May.)

I find the Czech website that Mr. E mentions to be easier to use and the fares are sometimes cheaper. (I also like the Czech trains.)

I actually use their app. All in English. All very easy.

I havent been on RegioJet but its hard to beat their prices. I havent read anything negative about them. In Budapest they go to secondary stations but thanks to the metro it isn't a problem.

The RailJet train brand is jointly used by OeBB (painted in red) and CD (painted in blue). Therefore the Austrian and Czech trains are virtually the same, except for small differences in the seating arrangement.

The major difference between CD and OeBB is the pricing structure, CD usally being cheaper.

I think the reason that CD is cheaper than ÖBB on that route is that many Austrians have some form of discount card. So that from the point of view of most Austrians ÖBB will not appear to be more expensive than CD. In the end the intention is that Czechs use CD, and Austrians use ÖBB, and tourists, well the trains aren't there for them primarily but they are welcome to use them anyway :-)

First time i heard in years of following this, that OBB sells a discount card for about 70 euro that provides a 50% discount on full price tickets. Sure even with that, CD is going to be cheaper but for those folks taking 3 ot 4 long trips within Austria it might save a couple of euro.

There are several OeBB discount cards, providing 50% discount on regular tickets (and other, minor benefits). The most important two are:
Vorteilscard Classic: €73 per year
Vorteilscard Senior: €31 per year (for people older than 65)

MAV has a better senior citizen discount card. They call it "Passport".
