I would like to rent a car in Austria, drive it to Slovenia, and return it to the location in Austria where I rented it. May I take a rental car from Austria into Slovenia?

Agree with all that is said above. I have regularly taken a rental from Austria to Slovenia using Sixt rental agency. The car came with an Austrian Vignette. We purchased the Slovenian Vignette right at the border.

Thank you for your information. I am in the process of planning a trip from Vienna to Slovenia. We prefer to drive to Slovenia as long as it's possible to take an Austrian car there. Otherwise we'd have to take the train and rent a car in Slovenia and return it before leaving Slovenia.
By the way, can anyone tell me what Schengen means???

Make sure you ask when you set up the car rental. We are renting in Germany driving into Slovenia and then dropping back in Germany. We found that only Avis will allow us to do that. So, apparently not all agencies will allow it. Make sure you check it out carefully.

Thanks for the info. I haven't contacted any rental car agencies yet, but will definitely ask before I make a reservation.

One other thing......because we have to use Avis for our car rental agency we found that Avis was not located where we wanted to pick the car up, so we will have to end up taking a train to Avis in another city. Just be aware that you may have to adjust your plans like we did.
