Recommendations on mid price hotels in Salzburg.

Recommendations on location to stay in Salzburg first time visitors. We will be staying 5 nights and doing day trips from there. Mid price range hotels ?.. in old town or just outside, near public transportation for day trips? Or is public transportation accessible from both old town or just outside?
Any advice is helpful.

We stayed 2 nights pre-tour and 2 nights during our My Way Alpine tour at Hotel Hofwirt in early June 2022 for 150E/nt for a balcony room with twin beds. Very nice, simple but comfortable, and the room was an okay size for two to move around and still have storage space and table top space. Large breakfast Buffett selections. The room had AC as well, but capped to a certain temp. The hotel was about a 7-10 min walk to Old Town. There was a pharmacy and a grocery store right across the street, and some simple restaurants nearby as well. I was open to staying elsewhere for our pre-tour nights, but the pricing for Hotel Hofwirt was actually one of the best I had found for the proximity, so it worked out well to just stay there.

Most of your questions are answered in the RS guidebooks.
Day trips to where? Public transportation is very good in the area, from the train station area and around the old town.
We stayed in the Boutique Hotel Am Dom in the old town, and were very happy with the service and the location.
Have a great trip!

We stayed in the middle of the old town several years ago at Hotel Elefant @ 220 Euros now per night with breakfast included. The king bedroom was nice and the staff helpful.

We stayed at Hotel Hohenstauffen. It is a modest property by the train station. It was a perfect choice for us. The staff was helpful, the room large and clean and the included breakfast was wonderful. It was a family owned property and I'd stay there again.
