We will betraveling from Vienna to Munich in January. Any recommendations on cool places to stay between the two just for a day or two?

We detoured through St Veikt an der Glan just to stay at the surrealist Kunsthotel St Veit Fuchtspalast. The town ended up being a nice place to spend a day and we had a lovely dinner with schnapps tasting at Suppenkasper just off the main square.

WOW!!!!! I just gave this a look . Seems this has a relationship to Hundertwasser . Fortunately ,the rooms are tame , with that exterior on the interior instead , it would keep me awake at night . All kidding aside , that looked very interesting !

You might consider Burghausen, Germany castle and Altstadt, if you take a northern route by car. It's on the border on the Salzach River. The castle is the longest Burg in the world. I take family there when visiting. Not sure what's going on in January. Good for a day and night.
