Recommendations for Classical Concert in Vienna

We are only in Vienna one full day (two nights) and want to be sure to go to a classical concert, and would love some recommendations on which is the most highly recommended. We see there are concerts in various churches and palaces and not sure which to choose. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Additionally, we are staying in a hotel near the intersection of Elisabethstr and Operngasse near the Ringstrasse and will be getting to Vienna late at about 6 pm and plan to drop off our luggage and would like to get something to eat nearby. Any recommendations ?

Thanks so much!

Who is your favourite composer? I’d start there and see what concert is best suited to your likes. The Vienna Philharmonic is one of the world’s great orchestras and they play in the Musikverein. Vienna is noted as a music centre and you probably won’t go wrong wherever you go. As the home of the Strauss family there are probably lots of Strauss concerts, offering both music and opera extracts. Really the best for you depends on what you enjoy listening too, what I look for in a concert may not be your choice.

With only two nights at your disposal , What you may see depends on what is on for the two specific dates

This is one of those questions where if you provided the date of the one evening you have in Vienna, you might get some specific recommendations.

I have not checked the websites of the major concert venues , but on that specific date you are unlikely to have much luck . The summer season is at its end and the autumn season is at least six weeks or so away . You might find a one off program aimed at tourists , but probably not much else .
