We'll arrive in December for the Vienna Christmas market. This will be our first time in Vienna, yet we'll the opportunity to come back within a short period of time. First if anyone has a recommendation for a boutique hotel (because that's what we like), and wondering how much time is needed to actually visit the Christmas markets in Vienna (we'll be visiting other towns too).
Boutique Das Tyrol. Chic, modern, lifts, air con/heating. Great staff and breakfast (not buffet, but à la carte). Located on Mariahilfstrase - quick walk to centre of town and close to public transport
Forgot to add, they will supply a kettle, iron and ironing board for use in room (although there is a coffee maker and fridge). The shower is a walk in (but just check which room you book). Dyson hairdryer supplied.
Large supermarket and several bakeries close to hotel.
Have booked to stay there again in March. I like the Studio room as it is larger and it had a small table and chairs on tiny terrace
Thanks Susie.
If you can provide your exact dates and your budget, then I am happy to see what is available, especially as many hotels are likely booked now for December.
As for the time you need for the markets, keep in mind that there are nearly 20 throughout the city, so it is best to make sure you get to the best ones. I've done many postings here with a rundown of the markets and the best ones. You can easily search. The best ones are at Karlsplatz, Spittelberg and Freyung.
That said, the best time each day to visit is when the sun goes down - around 4:30-5:00. To go in the day time is a bit of a waste.
Thanks everyone. Your wisdom is helpful.
