Recommend a stopover between Ljubljana and Innsbruck

We are planning an extensive trip in Slovenia and Austria, and will leave Slovenia en route to Innsbruck via the Tauern Railway/ Schwarzach im Pongau.

Can anyone recommend a two-night stopover in this region that features natural scenery, hiking, and good things to eat/drink?

This is related to my post earlier about Bad Gastein. I have already been to Zell am See but wonder what other places are worthy of visiting?

Hi,

I'm not familiar with rail travel or what's easy along the train route. I just wanted to suggest the Ramsau am Dachstein / Schladming area if it's convenient for you. Spectacular scenery. The "Der Dachstein" cable car trip, in Ramsau am Dchstein, is our favorite yet, including the Jungfraujoch, Zugspitze, Nordkettenbahn, etc. we stayed at the Pension Haus Maria in Ramsau. Alistair and Denise (wonderful couple) are usually happy to pick guests up at the Schladming train station, about 20 minutes away. I believe you get a card for free public transportation in the area also.
