Recent experience at Customs in Vienna

Hi all,

Quick question from a long time lurker. I have a 4 hour layover coming up in Vienna on the way to Thessaloniki. Has anyone ventured into the City in that duration. Not trying to do much, just catch a cup of coffee and enjoy the city. Thoughts? My past experience has been that the customs is pretty efficient (~30 minutes). it is more a matter of timing the train. thanks Murali

Quick answer. Probably not. Don’t you have to be at the airport and checked in 2h before your Vienna to Thessaloniki flight? That gives you no “extra” time. Enjoy a cup of Viennese coffee at the airport this time.

EDIT: The S7 takes 25 min each way.

You would need to go through immigration lines, longer than customs.

The most efficient way is to have your baggage checked-in directly to Thessaloniki from your airport of departure. If you check in online you should have your boarding passes already for all flights. So the time at the airport in Vienna to consider is the immigration line after arriving and the security check line before departure.

There is a train every 15 minutes from the airport to the city: Alternating a S7 (25 minutes to Wien Mitte station) and a RailJet (15 minutes to Wien main train station). From both train stations you have a metro line which brings you with a ride of 5 minutes to St. Stephen's Square, i.e. the very center of the old city. The fare for the trains is € 4.10 (one-way, including metro).
