Hi how can I visit Dachstein skywalk from Vienna? I plan to be in Vienna around September 25-27, 2017.
How easy is the drive and how to book car rentals.
Since I will also go to Salzburg, is it better to come from salzburg?

Salzburg is much closer,I would go from there.

There is an express train every two hours from Salzburg to "Schladming" (1:36 hours ride). From Schladming train station there is a shuttle bus to the cable car which will bring you to the skywalk.

if you go to de dachstein, you won't be disappointed, even if the weather is not good they have a very good ,well priced restaurant up there. also the ice cave is the best we have seen. compared to ones in france and switzerland.
we were there approx a week ago and had a great time.
we are currently in lauterbrunnen swizerland and having toured the alps in nearby countries, the dacstein is very,very under rated.
our accomodation gave us a summer card while there, so we got free access/parking and a free ride up the cable car. doesn't get better than that. we only had to pay for the ice cave, but it was worth it.
if you are looking for adventure also look at the zip line not far from der dachstein/ramsau. fantastic!!!

If the skywalk is your "must see" just be aware that the weather is very changeable and not always good. We stayed in Dachstein for three nights hoping to do the skywalk and never did have a clear day. This was July. We finally just went up anyway and it was so socked in with fog we didn't see a thing. Still had fun though and the area is beautiful!
