I have downloaded the Qando apps for Vienna and Salzburg. Do they work offline? (My understanding is that, because of the technology used, navigation apps work offline. (?) Does this apply to Qando?) Thanks!

Upgrade to the WienMobil app. Neither, however, work offline.

I agree with Emily to upgrade to the WienMobil app and trust her advice that the navigation tools don't work offline. The only thing I would add is that while you don't have access to navigation tools offline, you do have access to any tickets you have purchased.

Maps.me works offline maybe that is what you are thinking of. It is free. For my last trip to Europe and for travel in the U.S., I download the maps ahead of time and pin hotels, train stations, etc. I did some practicing before I left home. Then, yes, it does work offline rather similar to GPS, and I would argue better.

As I understand it, offline walking navigation is not available with Google maps. And I am not entirely sure that the public transportation information would be up to date--someone who is more in the know could perhaps confirm that. I am plotting locations on maps.me to use for walking navigation.
