Proposed Itinerary - suggestions 12 days Vienna- Munich

We are a family of 4 traveling to Austria and Germany in mid June. Here is our suggested itinerary:

Day 1-2 Travel to Munich
Days 3-6 in Munich (2 days tour City, 1 day trip to Neuschwanstein, 1 day tip to Salzburg?)
Days 7-8 Munich to Melk - Day and 1/2 to tour Melk and Bike Danube
Days 9-12 Vienna - (1 Day Trip to Burgenland Gut Oggau Winery)

Any suggestions on train travel or places to stay is appreciated.

Skip Neuschwanstein as it's out of the way. Spend that time in Salzburg, one of our favorite small towns. Then continue east to Melk and Vienna.

I hope you understand that you have about a 5 hour train ride from Munich to Melk. Consider heading south to Innsbruck or G-P for variety and outdoor activity. Innsbruck is a fantastic city and close to many great towns and sites.
