I am considering a trip to Hallstatt from Salzburg and stay there for at least 2 days. Contributors to this forum indicated that taking the train or bus would take over 2 and a half hours . I am considering takes a private motor transfer directly from the Salzburg airport to Hallstatt and the trip would take just over one hour . I do understand that it will be expensive , but one can avoid the hassles of lugging our luggages up and down trains , buses and the ferry boat. Would any one has any recommendation as to a reliable company who can offer such a private transfer. ? Also , I would be grateful for any recommendation on accommodation in Hallstatt. I understand that the Seehotel Gruner Baum is the standard recommendation, but this property has attracted some negative reviews on the net and it would certainly be very crowded in August when I plan to go . Is there any other recommendations ? It does not necessary have to be within the Hallstatt town itself , but maybe there are some hidden gems a short bus ride away ? I would be grateful for any advice. Thank you .
In the first place, don't take so much luggage that it is a hassle.
I also prefer to pack light and use public transport where it's relatively easy to do so. Salzburg airport web site has listings for other services.
claw,
I'm not sure where you're looking at reviews for the Seehotel Grüner Baum, but I checked Trip Advisor and the majority of the reviews fall into the "Excellent" category. The experiences and expectations of travellers can vary, so any hotel can get negative reviews and I tend to take them "with a grain of salt". That's about the biggest and most posh hotel in Hallstatt, so you don't have a lot of choices unless you want to look at smaller Pensiones or B&B's.
I've never had occasion to use "private motor transfer" from Salzburg airport, but this website may help.....
Thanks to everyone for their prompt reply . Yes , travelling light is an option . Anyone else out there who may have other suggestions , please .?
Rent a car at the airport and drive to Hallstatt.
"Rent a car at the airport and drive to Hallstatt."
But keep in mind that you won't be able to drive in the town. You'll have to park in Lahn and then walk or take the shuttle to your hotel. If you plan on driving, you may find THIS website helpful.
Thanks to Ken for the reminder .
There are also some accommodations in Lahn. If you stay there, then it's a short walk (without your luggage) along the lakeside pedestrian road into Hallstatt. You can get to Lahn by car, or by bus from Salzburg, Bad Ischl, or Obertraun (next stop on the train to Hallstatt), or by boat from downtown Hallstatt or the Hallstatt station across the lake.
Thank you , Lee , for the advice . Yes , It looks like a very good option to stay just outside Halstatt with lower prices and less crowd . Thank you indeed.
