Private Driver

Private drivers are very uncommon in Austria. People travel either by public transport or rent a car if they don't have an own.
But if money is not a limiting factor it will not be difficult to find a taxi service for yor desired travel.

I've used Daytrip.com from Hallstatt to Salzburg, worked out okay. He didn't look to rare. Also used them from Bratislava to Budapest once.

I've used Daytrip 3 times and have been very pleased with the drivers provided. The company also offers stops for sight-seeing along the way. As with everything, the service has grown considerably more expensive over the last few years but is probably worth a check...

My recommendation is to use public transport like everyone else. It isn’t gross or hard and it is often faster.

Most of the time I am with Emily on this. The two times I used DayTrip.com was because of stops I wanted to make along the way and the driver did away with multiple trains, then buses and taxis from and back to train stations at my intermediate stops. But door to door A to B in a nice car isn't terrible either.

Appreciate this post and replies. We have good friends who never use public transportation. Last summer my wife and the woman from the couple spent a week each in London and Paris. The only public transport they used was a bus out to Windsor and the train from London to Paris. Otherwise, all taxis all the time.

In the next few years (after he retires) we will be taking a Christmas Market trip with them into Germany and Austria. I personally enjoy taking public transport in Germany and Austria, especially riding the trams to see the people and the places along the way. I also want to be prepared with resources for private cars and taxis when we finally make our plans a reality.
