Please help. I have made a reservation for myself on the SBB app for a 1st class ticket from Salzburg to Luzern. I reserved my seat. Then when I went to make a reservation for my husband and tried to reserve his seat, they put him in a different row. Not knowing how to change that, I purchased his ticket without making a seat reservation, thinking I could go in afterwards and hopefully select his seat so that we would be together. Now I can't find where to make a seat reservation for him, much less to select a seat so we could sit together. What did I do wrong and how do I fix it? I'm guessing I should have made both reservations at the same time??
Thanks,
Laurie
Is it an OBB train? if so, you can make a seat reservation here:
https://www.oebb.at/en/reiseplanung-services/vor-ihrer-reise/reservierung-sitzplatz
On SBB, there are insturctions here for reserving a seat, without purchasing a ticket:
If you wish to reserve a seat without purchasing a ticket, scroll down to ‘Additional services’ and select ‘Seat reservation only’.
Thanks, Carrie. I made the reservation through SBB. I'm convinced there must be a glitch in the system because when I scroll down there is no seat reservation only selection. I've tried the app and the website. It's been very frustrating.
Oh! I screwed up. I made the ticket and seat reservation on the SBB app but since the train is coming from Austria I should have done it on the OBB app. So now since my seat reservation is nonrefundable, I'll have to pay for another seat reservation on the OBB app where I can actually pick my seat. Damn.
Don’t feel bad. Mistakes happen. Seat reservations are pretty cheap.
Have a great trip!
Well.....it was business class. But I'm over it. Thanks again.
if you are both in the same carriage, why not swap around when the train starts moving, or take two unreserved seats together before it does?

OeBB charges €3 for a seat reservation, independently of the class you have chosen.
By the way, business class is an overkill. The name entices you to think of air travel, i.e., the comparison between business and economy class, where there is a really big gap in comfort.
Thanks, everyone. I just about drove myself crazy trying to figure it out. I reserved two first class window seats for us, left-hand side facing forward, on the OBB site. Maybe we will take turns visiting our business class seat! I had researched this so long ago I forgot all the details and just jumped in. Big learning curve for me.
Take care,
Laurie
Here are a few tips for next time:
- When booking for multiple persons the system will normally try to put you together. But on SBB that sometimes fails. And you cannot pick your seats on SBB. You could do that on ÖBB.
But you shouldn't fret to much. A seat reservation is just an insurance policy. In 1st class trains are rarely full, so you can just pick a couple of seats you like. You do not have to sit in the seats you reserved.
Good to know! Thanks.
