I'm trying to purchase tickets and reserve seats ftom Zell am See to Salzburg on August 26. Any time in the afternoon for a direct ride. I have done mock purchases have searched and searched for some link to reserve seats. I have clicked on everything but nothing pops up. If I pretend I only need a seat reservation and already have tickets every train says no seats available. Question is: Are these seats all really filled or will they hold some for spontaneous travelers? Second where is the link to reserve my seat at the time of ticket purchase? Third Am I obsessing over nothing and don't need to worry about seats. However we are in our late seventies so standing isn't a good option? Thanks for your help
It is because your journey is on a regional train or a bus where it is not possible to reserve seats. Those trains and/or buses don't have seat numbers and as it is a regional train/bus, you just sit where you like.
For regional travel it is unnecessary to buy the ticket in advance as the price is no different today as it would be on Aug. 26. If you are two or more people, then I suggest purchasing the Einfach Raus ticket which will save you money - https://www.oebb.at/en/tickets-kundenkarten/freizeit-urlaub/einfach-raus-ticket
Thanks for the answer to my dilemma. So is it correct then to just buy the tickets now or when I arrive and there will be seats? Also rhe train offer you suggested sounds like it will help us. I didn't run into that great piece of info on any of my searches.
I would take the REX 3 train because it is faster than the S 3 train. Zell am See is the third stop for these trains, i.e., it is very unlikely that all seats are already taken. Nevertheless, try to be among the first to board the train. Besides that, as far as I know, there are marked priority seats for elderly or mobility challenged passengers.
Yes of course there will be seats. As you are older you qualify for priority seating which are near the doors. This is a regional train making many stops. People will get on and off every few minutes.
Thanks so much for all your kind responses. I am greatly relieved.

When you buy a train ticket you do not buy a "seat". Trains are mass transit, and you pay for transportation. It is possible that more people board a train than there are free seats, and then not everyone will sit...
