I have a choice to go from Atlanta, Ga directly to Zurich or to Munich and then a short flight to vienna,
The difference is that only one flight a day to Zurich and Munich has many .

Personally, I would do the direct flight and I think the EES might be a bit quicker at the Vienna airport (from personal experience) than Munich

Are you restricting your choices to only one airline for some reason? And are you trying to do this on 2 separate tickets instead of one ticket with a single connection?

I'm confused. A quick check on Google Flights shows only one flight per day from Atlanta direct to either Munich or Zurich. Then, both Munich and Zurich have multiple flights to Vienna.
If you are only using Munich and Zurich as connection points to Vienna, I don't think which airport makes a huge difference. Both are modern airport and hubs for Lufthansa.

I'm a senior solo traveler flying from Atlanta to Vienna in December on Delta with a 3 hour layover in Amsterdam. I return home the same way with a shorter connection.
