Places to visit in Vienna for 2 days

Dear Friends

I will be visiting Vienna for 2 days in the month of October.

Can you tell me the places which I must see / cover during my stay in Vienna. I have also purchased a Vienna Pass. I will be staying in District 1 during my stay in Vienna.

PS: Museums don’t interest me, but I am a big fan of monuments and buildings.

Kind regards

Also, if you don't like museums, why did you buy a Vienna Pass? It is not really a good value, in my opinion.

"...I am a big fan of monuments and building." How about historical and war monuments?

If so, I recommend the Soviet War Memorial and the Schwarzenbergplatz, for the Austrian commander against Napoleon, although still beaten decisively at Dresden by the French. Both these monuments are large, located not far from each other. Also, not far from Westbahnhof on an island in the middle of the street is another military monument, a soldiers' memorial, to the events of 1809, ie, against Napoleon. But the biggest military monument is at the Deutschmeisterplatz, where again the events of 1809 are part of the memorial. The Austrians focus on 1809 even though in the end they still were defeated in 1809.

For individual monuments see the two in front of the Hofburg, the Archduke Karl (of 1809 fame) and Prince Eugen, who was the Habsburgs' most victorious commander since he never lost. While you're in that area of the Hofburg, a few mins walk , I suggest also the Maria Theresien Platz, the monument to the Empress Maria Theresa surrounded by her commanders. The Albertina should not be missed either if you're interested in buildings and monuments, aside from the art exhibit inside.

@ rickmitra...You're welcome. Since you'll be in the center of Vienna (Innenstadt), as for buildings, I heartily recommend seeing the Stephans Dom (St Stephens church)..massive, and on the opposite end as you go through Kärtnerstraße (the main drag) is the Wiener Staatsoper (the State Opera house).

I know you said that you're not too keen on museums, but, with that in mind, I would still suggest the Army Museum (Heeresgeschichtliches Museum) and its extensive, expanded WW 1 exhibit. You'll see realia (tons of it) from the war, some not seen at any other war museum featuring the Eastern Front in WW 1, such as the Panzerkuppel (armoured cupola) from the fortress Przemysl barring the way to Lemberg (Lviv), the province capital of Galicia, which was the Russian strategic objective in 1914.

If you are interested in horses, check out the schedule for a performance or rehearsal of the riding school that features the white stallions.
