Photographer Guide in Salzburg

My husband and I are avid photographers and we are looking for a guide for a half day of photography in Salzburg in March. Does anyone have any referrals or ideas on how to find someone? My initial web searches haven't turned up anyone in that city.

I don't understand. Salzburg is a small town. I don't think you need a guide to show you what to photograph. Am I missing something?

I understand - I'm a (really) amateur photog too. You want someone to show you the best views, or to point out neat things or overlooked sights. I've never done a photo tour - almost booked some in Venice and Rome tho.

One thing I've started doing (and probably why I didn't book a tour) - get yourself on Pinterest and search for photos of Salzburg and you can save the ones that speak to you, find out the location and put it on your map. I did that for our Italy trip last year (I kept seeing photos of this interesting old door in Ravello - and I found it and got some pics of it myself...as well as the quintessential photo of the Amalfi Coast - the one with the old church and the trees overhanging just google Ravello photo and you'll see). I am currently pinning photos for our NYC trip this year to give me ideas for off the beaten track sights and interesting angles...go on youtube and search for Salzburg photography and you can probably get so many ideas from that as well.

If you can't find one with specific photographic expertise, I would guess that the regular private guides know where the best post card shots are taken from. That's been my experience with local guides.

I can't help with an answer to the guide question - just some comments resulting from our trip last May.

It rains a lot in Salzburg in the spring (according to our Sound of Music Guide - "If it's raining we must be in Salzburg"). During our 3 days in Salzburg it rained for most of 2 days. If your DSLR is not weatherproof, make sure to take a couple of rain covers (one to dry out :-). Hopefully your camera backpack/bag is waterproof. The folks who went with us had a pack that got so saturated with water that it was basically useless the 2nd day.

Narrowing down your interests would help (since you only have a half day) - for example: Are you most interested in interior shots of cathedrals/historical buildings or palaces etc, or exterior architectural, or street pictures, or anything with a Mozart theme, or - you get the picture.

I think the idea of a guide is a great one - Salzburg is not big place, but it is FULL of good places to take a picture - basically you can't swing a cat without hitting a good place to take a shot. A knowledgeable photo guide could definitely help narrow it down to the best locations.

Good Luck!
