Hello - I've narrowed my selection to these two lodgings in Vienna. K & T is about $40/ US total more for the three nights I'll be in Vienna, and looks nicer from the internet photos than Pension Hargita. Any one have any opinions?
I started staying at K&T Boardinghouse about 17 years ago when they were in their original location (across the street.) Rick Steves stayed with them when he was in Vienna and was a good friend.
Our last visit 2 years ago was in the new place, and we stayed in the room showing on their website. The room was absolutely huge, and completely spotless.
The metro station entrance was across the street from our room--50' away--and we could be within The Ring within 5 minutes and 1 stop. Restaurants and shopping is also right there.
Tina and Kaled have always been great hosts, and I see no reason to stay anywhere else.
Pension Hargita is near Westbahnhof, ca 10 mins off of Mariahilferstrasse, a commercial street with lots of shops, eateries, etc. I've never stayed there, only checked it out but do know area of Zieglergasse and Neubaugasse (two U-Bahn stops) from Westbahnhof where Hargita is located.
I have stayed at neither, so can only comment on the location. These lodgings are about a block away from each other, so really no difference in access to public transportation or sights. K&T is on a slightly quieter side street, but this entire area is the major shopping venue for the city. It is buzzing at all hours.
We've stayed at Pension Hargita twice. The location is great, the price is right and the rooms are clean but small and basic. Breakfast is extra and nothing special. I haven't stayed at K & T but from the comments here, I think it might be worth it to pay a little extra to stay there.
