Parking Vienna help

I have searched the site about parking in Vienna. We are driving for a day trip in rental car.
What is closest best parking to St Stephens and Inner Stadt? Is ride and park best and what subway to take to inner stadt if so?

I also read there are inner city garages?
Thank you all!

Park somewhere outside the city and take the train. Where are you coming from?

Coming from South. Looks like there are several posted as park and rides. I am thinking they all likely have subway or train to the city center. Thank you for your help.

If you're coming from the south I'd suggest parking in Wiener Neustadt and then take the train to Vienna.

parking in Wiener Neustadt and then take the train to Vienna.

There is absolutely no reason to park your car 40 miles away from Vienna, adding a train ride of 40 minutes (one-way).

What people do not like is the paid short parking throughout Vienna. You are only allowed, if at all, to park for two hours on a street, and you need to have purchased a parking ticket in advance proofing your payment.

Most people use electronic parking tickets via an app because getting the paper variant of a parking ticket is somewhat cumbersome. Parking tickets are sold in tobacco shops (Tabak Trafik), but their number is diminishing.

Vienna has a plethora of parking garages, even in the very center, e.g. right on Stefansplatz behind St. Stephen's Cathedral. (I would not recommend this particular one, though, because it is very small, booked out quickly, and expensive.)

Use the official map of the City of Vienna for displaying all parking garages.
Scroll down on the left ("Show on the map") to "Traffic and transport" and expand "Parking". If you click on "Car park" you will be shown all locations of parking garages. Prices vary between €2.50 and €4.50 per hour.

Due to an error in the database clicking on "Park & Ride" will NOT show the correct number of P+R garages. These are always located at major subway stations and charge €4 per day.

If you arrive from the south (route A2) then I would recommend going to the P+R in Erdberg right at the eponymous U3 subway stop. When approaching Vienna you switch to route A23 and take the exit St.Marx which leads you right to the P+R. See here.
