Outdoor Concerts in Vienna or Salzburg?

Hi
I'm wondering if anyone has recommendations for outdoor concerts in Vienna or Salzburg?

Thanks

There was a thread about this not too long ago - you might search for it.

(just outside of Vienna)

That is an understatement. Check the distances and the travel times.

During the Salzburg festival, a huge video screen is set on the back of the Cathedral and there are daily shows of performances from past festivals and sometimes also from the present one. Seats are free unless you want to sit down at a restaurant table and have dinner with music.

Terri,
Give us the dates when you plan to be in Salzburg and Vienna, so more precise information about concerts can be given.

Classical music outdoors in Vienna is unusual, with the one exception already noted in a previous post ("Sommernachtskonzert"), for several reasons (weather, acoustics, tradition).

The regular concert season lasts from beginning of October to end of June. During the summer break there are several events outside Vienna where outdoor concerts may happen. There are performances shown on a video wall in front of the Vienna City Hall during July and August.

So for the dates you mentioned I don't see a chance for an outdoor concert of classical music.

But you may watch opera performances outdoors in Vienna for free:

Are you aware that June 5 is a national holiday in Austria? Shops will be closed. School is also out on June 5 and 6 so expect more tourists in town than usual and reduced services. As this is a religious holiday, expect most music offerings to be church/mass focused.
