We just returned about two weeks ago. We visited Salzburg, Austria from Munich as a day trip. It was great but I wished that I had stayed a night, at least, there instead of going back to Munich. Rookie mistake. We took the The Original Sound of Music Tour in Salzburg tour and loved it...We also did a hop on hop off that showed us some highlights of the city.
We left Munich and went to Zell Am See, Austria which was a great surprise. We visited the lake and took the train to Krimmler Falls. We had some extra time and took the "village" train and did a great hike out to a castle. We got misinformation on Grossglockner Highway tours so we missed that. The buses that go there only go on certain days.
Austria is so beautiful and the people so welcoming, I could have stayed.
