One night in Linz or add to Innsbruck...

Will be making our way from Vienna to Innsbruck. I am trying to decide if I should break up the journey with a one night stay in Linz, or just keep going and add that night to Innsbruck, which would give us three nights there.

Not sure if it’s really worth the time/effort for the one night stop. Would stopping for an afternoon visit make sense if we didn’t spend the night? I feel like we would just be walking around looking at the old town area, but we will be doing a lot of that in Vienna and Innsbruck...

I would choose Linz since I don't know Innsbruck. Linz is interesting culturally and certainly historically when you read the plaques on churches relating to the events and also on the bridges, eg, on the Vertreibung (Expulsion) of the Sudeten Germans after 1945 on the Nibelungen Bridge.

The Hauptstrasse is the main drag but walking in side streets and getting up to the Schloss are well worth it. Specialised historical topics on Upper Austria are exhibited as Linz is the province capital.

So many other interesting places to stop other than Linz.

I happen to love Innsbruck and the entire area around it. So I'd do and extra night there, as 2 isn't much time at all.

I agree with Paul. I could day trip out of Innsbruck for 1 - 2 weeks! And that doesn't count the days just in Innsbruck.

Yep, Innsbruck. Try to stay somewhere near the river.

Yeah - as I was typing the question, I think I was talking myself out of a one night stay. I'm not a fan of one night stays...and I imagine between Prague, Vienna, Innsbruck and Bolzano, we will see lots of beautiful Old Towns.

And Linz is not a beautiful old town to begin with.

Gmunden woukd be a much better choice for a short stop.
