One month in Vienna

I like planning for what I call long term Europe trips (say a few months, just under Schengen zone requirements) and such trips might include staying a month or so in one area. I'm looking for some ideas about what a one month visit to Vienna might look like. Such a visit might consist of a mixture of seeing a lot of Vienna, but also a nice chunk of day trips (not "day trips" to Salzburg or Budapest which would make for very tiring days, but more like day trips to Krems, Baden bei Wien, Burgenland, Bratislava etc)
With less time pressure to see all the main Vienna sights, would there be certain neighborhoods that might be have a nice residential feel to them in terms of a one month apartment rental? We probably wouldn't have a car, so would be taking public transportation both within and without Vienna. Anyway, I'd like to know if anyone has done something like this in Vienna, and also about good day trip ideas. They wouldn't have to be just the obvious ones but also lesser known but still worthwhile trips, in view of the longer term stay situation.

You will certainly receive many responses , there is a surfeit of things to see and places to visit . As a start , this place just on the city's outskirts is a favorite of mine - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klosterneuburg_Monastery . This documentary , which I highly recommend , will give you a great overview of Vienna . - https://youtu.be/AFZBOTgL_Hk . My stays in Vienna average three weeks on each visit , and I never find myself without things to see and do . Finally , if you really want to dig deeply into the politics , history , and art of the city , this book is a must - https://www.amazon.com/Fin-Siecle-Vienna-Politics-Culture/dp/0394744780/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1527790146&sr=8-1&keywords=vienna+findesiecle&dpID=41V8OmFyCFL&preST=_SY344_BO1,204,203,200_QL70_&dpSrc=srch

check out a thing called niederösterreich card - which even if you don´t buy it - will give you a list of like 200 things to do near vienna
obviously also things like wachau valley, hallstatt, salzkammergut,

in vienna itself go to the arsenal, belvedere, lainzer tiergarten, nußdorf, old danube for swimming, hiking along the vinyards, cobenzl, neustift am walde,

there are hundreds of kilometres that you can walk in the parks and forests in vienna - they are massive.

spittelberg, serviettenviertel, wieden - these kind of places might be nice to stay.

We stayed in an apartment very close to Radetzkyplatz, but for just a week. It was great - one tram stop across the street, the other at a nearby corner, along with a grocery store. Several restaurants. I'm not sure it qualifies as a "residential feel" neighborhood (no grass or trees to speak of) but it was very convenient.

Nice neighborhoods to consider - the Servitenviertel (https://www.wien.info/en/shopping-wining-dining/markets/servitenviertel), the Friehausviertel (https://www.wien.info/en/shopping-wining-dining/markets/freihausviertel), Gumpendorferstrasse, Siebensterngasse, Lindengasse.

Good day trips - Laxenburg, Rust on the Neusiedlersee, Sopron, Schneeberg, Rax, the Garten in Tulln, Klosterneuburg, Brno, Perchtoldsdorf, the Lobau National Park, Carnuntum/Petronell, Terme Oberlaaa and Gardens

Thanks for suggestions everyone. I like the niederosterreich card, just wish it covered more of the Vienna attractions. Laxenburg looks great, and I had never thought of Brno as a day trip. Lots to do.

Should you be going there, and if you are interested in architecture, visit "Villa Tugendhat". Pre-booking required.

Not sure of time of year you are traveling, but one suggestion would be to visit some heurigen. They are small wineries serving their new, fresh wines, often serving food, sometimes music. They reminded me of beer gardens but with wine. We took a trolley a bit out of town to "Vienna Woods". There also were some nice hikes and vistas there.
