Oktoberfest in Vienna_Update

It just so happens that I'll be in Vienna when Oktoberfest starts. Does anyone have any experiences, is it worth it to go? We'd most likely go during the day, so we won't have to deal with tickets.

UPDATE: I'm asking about the "Oktoberfest" celebration in Vienna, not Munich. I apologize for not being clear.

UPDATE 2: We attended the Kaiser Wieswn on opening day - it was a total blast. We found a table in the Gösser tent and enjoyed beer, food, and song. If you're in Vienna during this time, I highly recommend it. Free during the day, admission charged in the evenings due to entertainment.

Its a 4 1/2 hour train ride each way. Sure you want to do this for a couple of beers?

Do they celebrate Oktoberfest in Vienna? I think it's a Munich thing, not celebrated all over Germany and Austria. There might be similar local Fests during that time, but its not linked.

As others said it's a long train ride unless you are going to Munich for a couple of days. There are numerous celebrations all over Germany and in Austria. There is actually an Oktoberfest in Vienna September 21st to October 8th so you won't have to go far. Here is a link: https://events.wien.info/en/13x7/kaiser-wiesn-2023/. I have never been so I don't know how good it is but it might be a good compromise option if it works for your schedule.

Prater is a great place to visit even without Oktoberfest tents. I suggest you go while in Vienna and let us know what you think. I will arrive there on October 11th after visiting the Volksfestival (similar to Oktoberfest) in Stuttgart.

I've updated my original post for clarity, thanks everyone!

Kaiser Wiesn is Vienna's version of Oktoberfest. I'm wondering if it's worth a visit while in Venna.

I’ve been to the Wiener Weis’n a few times in Vienna. It is a relatively new event that attracts obnoxious Axe spray fueled twenty something’s in the evening, when table reservations are required. During the day time, however, the venue is free. There are two to three tents, probably some music and definitely beer. If you are in the area, check it out for a few minutes but if you aren’t nearby, I’d say it is a miss.

Oh Emily, you've painted a picture that both scares and amuses me. ;)
I'm grateful for your feedback and I won't plan too much time around it, but I'll check it out, at least for a bier. Danke!

You might check out the Schweizerhaus in the Prater if the weather is nice. They serve the original Budweiser from the Czech Republic.
