Is it possible to experience Oktoberfest in Austria? I will be in Vienna at the end of September 2024 meeting my Austrian cousins for the first time. We are just starting to plan our gathering. Besides visiting family in Vienna we hope to include a hike in the Alps and beer in a tent while we are there. Thanks for any feedback!

The Oktoberfest in Vienna is a weak imitation of the original in Munich. If I was in Vienna I would spend my time in other places than in such a revelry and booze-up. Going to a Heurigen is much more appropriate in Vienna.

I was in Vienna end of September and saw no signs of Oktoberfest activity. But in various squares and courtyards there are food stands and open air restaurants, and they may add some O'fest sparkle to their normal offerings.

The "Oktoberfest" in Vienna took (and will take) place in Prater, near the Riesenrad (ferris wheel).
