Octoberfest

Very much enjoyed Oktoberfest the two times I went.

I think it would be a good way to experience Oktoberfest along with the regular stops in Munich. The fest is confined to a limited area, the rest of the city is fairly normal.
I imagine you'll walk through the area as a group during the day when it is less crowded and rowdy.

Yes, we had this opportunity on our GAS tour and it was worth it. We might have never gone on our own and had the wrong idea of what it would be like. It was a fun and festive family daytime event, like a state fair with beer optional. Not a drunken brawling danger zone like a US event would have been.

Being on the tour made it easy because we had our hotel taken care of, and the RS tour leader showed the people who wanted to go, how to get there and back (short u-bahn ride). The rest of the city was business as normal.

Thank you for explaining what Octoberfest will be like. Stan, your comment is so true about how it would be in the States, but it did make me laugh.
