ÖBB App or Scotty or?

I need to buy train tickets from Salzburg to Ljubljana and a return, and I assume ÖBB is the best place to buy those. Should I use the ÖBB tickets app or ÖBB Scotty? I notice Scotty has a better rating on the app store.

Why does ÖBB have two different apps anyway?

I should mention I am a big fan of the DB app and hope ÖBB will be similar.

ÖBB Scotty is the timetable app for searching connections. If you tap on "Tickets" the ÖBB app is opened implicitly.
To have the ÖBB app installed separately gives you the advantage to have your personal data stored and applied for a purchase, especially regarding the fare reductions you are entitled to, e.g. senior discount, Vienna public transport pass, etc.

Nevertheless, I like to use the ÖBB website to purchase tickets in advance and have it printed. The seat selection for a reservation using the floor plan of a car is difficult for me on the small display of a mobile phone.

wmt1, thank you for your reply. It's good to know both apps and the website all basically lead me to the same place, I can just choose my preference.

I have been using Scotty to explore times and routes, but I will have to play with the ÖBB app a bit more since with a login I can search and read online and the ticket, I assume, will transfer to the app on my phone.

We used the OBB app while traveling in Austria (Vienna to Salzburg, Salzburg to Prague) and it worked great!
