Hello,
I'm currently in Vienna for just a couple of days. On our first full day, between museums, we walked through the center of the city and saw a lot of luxury international shops (Gucci, Louis Vuitton, etc). We'd love to find a district with boutiques and cute local shops with more "normal" price tags and distinctive local wares. Since we're short on time for exploring, can you recommend a neighborhood not too far out? Thanks!
Try Mariahilfer Strasse. Best is to start at the upper end (Westbahnhof, U3) and walk down to the Ring boulevard, ending at the Kunsthistorisches Museum (KHM).
About in the middle there is a cross-road, called Neubaugasse, which is also full of shops.
Alternatively you may visit one (or more than one) of the shopping malls.
I second Mariahilfer Strasse. I bought a pair of sandals there.
Mariahilferstrasse is more the place for mass-market everyday shopping. As you head away from there into Neubau the shops will get more boutiquey but also more expensive.
