My mom and I are going to Vienna in late November for the first time and want have one really nice dinner out. Price is no object. We are staying right behind the Opera. What do you recommend?
I had an excellent meal at the Café Mozart, next to the Hotel Sacher.
Well, the absolute best restaurant in Vienna is Steirereck, rated by the experts as the 16th best restaurant in the world and only restaurant in town with 2 Michelin stars.

Cafe Mozart also gets my vote. I was there yesterday and especially enjoyed the pistachio ice cream sundae. People watching was spectacular, excellent food and even better service.
I recently came back from Vienna. Major foodie here, but didn't partake in a lot of fine dining here. I went to Steirereck's sister restaurant, Meierei, and had a most wonderful lunch with probably the best version of beef goulash I had on my whole Eastern European trek. This is also one of the few places to try kaisserschmarr'n. I also went to Plachutta and had their famous tafelspitz. Great dish, although the broth was a bit on the salty side. It's a big place, so not sure if a reservation is required in the off-season. For other ideas, consult Sturmi in the Chowhound forums.
Any suggestions for dinner place without getting dressed up we will be on RS tour early Oct.
