Needle Arts in Vienna

I will be traveling to Vienna and love hand-made needle work and lace, embroidery and such. Any ideas for a place to find some of this in shops as we walk Vienna? We will be there for a few days and would love to know places to visit and see this. Thank you for your help!

Vienna isn't really known for lace. For embroidery, I suggest the shop, Zur Schwäbischen Jungfrau, which is located on the Graben. Here is the link in English to their website - this is a very old shop with a strong historical tradition in Vienna:

Would vintage trims and lace work for you? I used to get them in flea markets in Europe, but not sure what current flea markets look like anymore....if they are more likely knock off booths, then most likely not worth the effort. But if you can find old linens, then most likely hand made.

"Petit-Point" is a special technique of stitching. Being the hobby solely of the aristocracy in the 18th century, it was later during the first half of the 19th century (Biedermeier period) when the then-Austrian Empire became the leading nation for this craftsmanship.

Original Petit-Point works from this time still can be found in antiques shops in Vienna but may be very expensive. Recent pieces are widely available but are not cheap either because real Petit-Point is completely handmade.

Not exactly Petit-Point, but somewhat descriptive: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Needlepoint

This text gives a detailed explanation, including the difference between Petit-Point and Needlepoint, but it is in German:
