Need Help with Vienna Train Stations

Planning to take train from Prague to Vienna in May, but having trouble with which station in Vienna we are suppose to come in on due the various constructions going on with different stations. Checked their website, but became more confused. Can someone please help to clarify? Which one is the "main station" where trains from other countries come into? We also plan to take train from Vienna to Budapest - same station? Thank you.

Vienna has numerous train stations; it all depends on where you are arriving from. There is a main train station under construction in Vienna, but it is no where near completion for international travel.

Trains from Prague arrive at Wien Meidling, expect the last train of the day which arrives at Wien Praterstern.

Train costs €19 from www.cd.cz/eshop - choose the English option top right and print the ticket off at home.

You mention that you have used "their website." Whose website are you referring to?

Dee, the bahn.de website might be easier to use for checking schedules, even though you can't buy tickets there unless the trip includes a change in Germany.

In addition to the trains arriving at Wien Meidling , some stop at Wien Westbahnhof although they seem to require an intermediate change rather than going direct . In any event the arrival station in Vienna is relatively unimportant as the Ubahn and tram network is so good that you will have no trouble connecting to your hotel from any arrival terminal , The Vienna network is an absolute joy to use and you will love it . The train to Budapest is an OBB ( Austrian state railways ) Railjet that departs Wien Westbahnhof ( it may stop at Meidling on the way out of town ) . Advance tickets are available from OBB as low as 19EU per person . Train arrives at Keleti station in Budapest ( three hour trip and connection to the Budapest metro is right outside Keleti station .

The website above is for the Vienna tourist board.

The website for the Austrian National Rail Service is www.oebb.at and you can find all the details there. You can also find schedules as well which will indicate the departure and arrival stations. There is the option to use the website in English at the top.
