Need help with travel itinerary between Munich, Salzburg and Vienna

My husband and I are taking a once in a lifetime trip to Europe in September/October. Our first stop is Rome with family and then we are going on our own to Munich, Salzburg and Vienna for 6-7 days. I am thinking of taking the Night Jet out of Rome. Not sure if it makes more sense to go to one city first over another. We are heading home from here, are flights easier out of Munich? Will we love or hate Oktoberfest? I think it will be pretty awesome to be in Germany celebrating beer. The plan is to do 2 days in each city. I know that's not a lot of time, so trying to make the best use of our time since we probably won't ever make it back. Looking forward to learning from your experiences!

Thanks,
Kathy

It is easier and cheaper to fly home from Munich. I would fly from Rome to Vienna, train to Salzburg 2 hours, then train to Munich 2 hours. I know there is a night train out of Venice to Munich but why back track to Munich to Fly Home. Look at rome2rio.com

Kathy whether you fly or take the train between cities, it will eat up at least half a day of your precious time just getting from one to the other. So you really only have 1.5 days or less in each. Thats enough to say you've been there, but not enough time to see much. So plan accordingly.

I would go Vienna>Salzburg>Munich.

Whether or not you will love or hate Oktoberfest depends on you. I love it, but my wife and I are huge beer people, and Munich is the place to be if you love beer. With 6-7 days, however, you need to understand that if you fully commit to Oktoberfest, those two days will likely be completely shot (Fest/Hangover). You can always just walk the grounds (which are nothing special by themselves, similar to an American carnival) and poke your head into some tents.

Fortunately, you can celebrate beer all over the city. Any chance on extending your stay?

Vienna: 3n
Salz: 2n
Munich: 3n
