Need Help-Prague to Austria in 2.5 days

I have 2.5 days to go from Prague to an Alpine experience. I will leave Prague Thursday morning and need to return Saturday late afternoon. Any suggestions?

Sorry, but we don't know what Alpine experience you are going to.
You can catch a bus from Prague to Munich. And a train can take you from Munich to many different Alpine locations including Innsbruck and the Tirolean region of Western Austria.

We took the train from Prague to Vienna (4 hours), which then continues on to Salzburg (3 hours). Salzburg is close to an Alpine experience, but if you wanted to really climb a mountain (or cable car a mountain), you could then take a bus to Berchtesgaden (45 minutes) or the train to Innsbruck (1.5 hours). That's a lot of traveling to only spend 1 day in a place though.

Also too far away, I suppose that a traditional "Czecho-Slovak" option would be to take a direct train 7 hours to Poprad-Tatry in Slovakia, then up the High Tatra mountains from there.

Rick's Prague book covers plenty of interesting, smaller Czech towns that are shorter side trips from Prague, such as Cesky Krumlov. For less crowded options, he mentions the wine & hill country around Mikulov, Pavlov, Lednice, and Valtice (toward Austria).
