Hi..i m travelling to Austria for three weeks and don't want to be hammered with roaming charges from optus. So i need to purchase a international sim card which I mostly need to access my Facebook to post pictures and keep in touch with my family back in Australia.. I won't need to make calls..just text and data. I was given a few options but i m really confused about it.. Any advice is much appreciated.. Thanks

This presumes you have an unlocked phone of course...
Thanks.. Yes the phone is unlocked.. You wouldn't by chance known if the a1 3 gb data only package for 10$€can be ordered online so i just have to activate it once I get into munich.. Thanks.
All advice appreciated
But Munich is not in Austria, so international roaming would apply until you crossed the Austrian border.
Take a look at LEBARA sim cards . They sell them in several countries including Germany . You could buy the card in Munich and roam with it in Austria , The rates for data and all their products are very low , so even with a roaming status , this very well may be a viable and inexpensive solution http://www.lebara.de/roaming
I land in Munich and will take the train to Salzburg. Sorry for not pointing that out.
Thanks for the other advice as well. I m unsure if I can preorder the sim of my choice before I leave. And than activate via phone once I get into Munich ?
How about using free WiFi in your hotels to connect with Facebook and email your family ? Put your phone on airplane mode most of the time and disable roaming -- we used WiFi in hotels across Austria and Germany.
