My Day Trip

We want to go from Austria, where our river cruise ship lands, to Budapest and don't want to fly or take the train. My Day Trip offers private car rides that aren't too expensive and only take 2 1/2 hours or so. Plus, one can add stops at various places on the way. This sounds ideal but I'm wondering if it's legit and if anyone here has had experience with them. Reviews are excellent but one needs to be a bit cautious with online reviews. Any help or info would be wonderful..

The reviews on this forum have been very positive (not too many of them yet). Of course, ours are technically "online reviews" too. We have a trip scheduled with them in May.

Thanks for posting. I feel better about our proposed trip with My Day Trip. Please let me know how things go. We will be using them in early August if all goes well.

My cousins used My Day Trip in the Budapest/Prague area last summer. They stopped along the way to see specific sights of interest. They had a wonderful experience. They were 2 couples and found it reasonable. They said they would use this service again.

We used them on two transfers in September this year. One was from Vienna to Budapest where we added optional stops in Bratislava and Gyor, and the other was from Budapest to Krakow where we added an optional stop to see Oravsky castle. The drivers were polite and pleasant, the cars were clean and comfortable. The day before our departure the company sent a confirmation email with meeting place and a photo of the driver so we would know who to look for. Both of our drivers pointed out sites of interest along the way and engaged in conversation about things to see and do in the places we were visiting, current politics in their country, and etc. We were hesitant also, because we didn't know anyone who had tried them, but we would definitely use them again.

The best stop between Vienna and Budapest is the town of Gyor and the Archabbey at Pannonhalma. For that the train works just fine as the train to Budapest stops in Gyor. Worth at least the day if not an overnight. I would be glad to help you with it.

Otherwise the countryside just isnt that impressive. The whole trip from Vienna to Budapest takes 2.5 hours so a car isnt helping much on the time factor.

If you are concerned about the comfort of the trip or the train station at the Budapest end dont. The trip is relatively short and comfortable, and the train staion isnt confusing, but if you are worried I can give you turn by turn directions to a tax or the metro to get you to your Budapest accommodations.
