We are going on a short Christmas market cruise mid December and will add on days in Vienna first. Unfortunately the days before are Monday to Thursday and I'm afraid concerts,etc. Will be closed or limited. Anyone know?

I had no trouble finding something that suited me in early December 2017. I don't remember where I looked, but maybe start here, and somebody else can chime in if there is a better source.

There are operas through the month of December. If you are not sure you'd like to commit to a whole opera, you can queue for standing room tickets which were outrageously cheap, couple euros, I believe. We stayed for the first half (Hansel and Gretel) and then walked around the interior and left. I can see Magic Flute is on of the operas in December. We would have loved that! The RS guide has info on how to get the standing room tickets. (hint, bring a scarf!)

It is in German only, but you can easily filter by location (i.e. Wien), date and type (e.g. Musik/Klassik).
I am not sure whether all dates for December are already available and entered into the database.
If you want to book tickets online, best is to use the website of the respective venue (and not a ticket office).
