Music in Vienna - Small Affordable Venues

I am spending three nights in Vienna before starting the Best of Eastern Europe tour in September. I love all types of music, classical, jazz, folk. Vienna is known for its music, especially for opera and the beautiful opera houses. I would love to hear about smaller and less expensive performances and venues, small theaters and clubs that offer jazz, folk and other types of music. Thank you for sharing your experience!

Yes, the Augustiner Church Sunday morning orchestra and choir was outstanding! I bought the CD. I toured the Opera House and attended a performance of Rigoletto on another visit to Vienna.

A few years ago I attended an evening concert that featured an amazing quartet playing classical music in St. Anne's Church in Vienna. I found it on Viator but you can also find information about the church and tickets via google. It's a small church with an absolutely gorgeous interior that was lit up beautifully and the music sounded so amazing in that setting. It was only about an hour and not very expensive and was a highlight of my trip.

We went to an evening concert in Peterskirche ( St. Peter's Church) that was beautiful and calming after a long day sightseeing.
It is just a short walk across the plaza from St. Stephen's Cathedral, easy to find. Check it out ahead of time to find dates and performers.

At the end of September a few years ago, my husband and I attended Konzerte im Mozarthaus (a Mozart quartet performance) which was just a few hundred feet from St. Stephen’s Cathedral. During intermission, we enjoyed a glass of champagne outside while gazing at the lit steeple of St. Stephen's. Mozart had performed in the same concert hall. It was lovely.

I was in Vienna the first week in August. When I stopped in to the tourist office to ask about concerts, music, etc. I was informed that "not much" is offered during the summer months. However, they did suggest I go to the Music Film Festival at City Hall. This is a free outdoor event showing a film of a musical event. The park in front of the City Hall turns into a large beer garden/food court.

I went on two evenings and had a great time. Some of the people were actually watching the film, most were not. And, there is a Tram stop right in front of the park. The last film will be aired on September 4th. https://filmfestival-rathausplatz.at/
