Music in Salzburg

We're hoping to see a classical music concert while in Salzburg in January but not really into the dinner concerts and would like to bring teens. Are there also lots of other places for music in evocative locations, akin to Prague? What's the best place to get info about performances, and should we buy tickets in advance?

There is a Mozart Concert at Mirabel on January 1st 2023 at 5pm for 30 euros. I asked for classical music concerts in Salzburg in Janurary 2023 online. There may be more posted soon.

It depends on whether you're more into classical music or an evocative location. The Mozarteum (music school) is a great place for serious musicians to see concerts. Evocative locations kind of mean touristy to me, though seeing Bartered Bride in the National Theatre on Prague was great.

The concert at the fortress has excellent musicians and a fairly evocative location. You can buy performance only tickets (no dinner). For those who choose the dinner option, dinner is served in the restaurant or on the panorama deck prior to the performance, so no one is eating during the performance.

One of the best places to find out about classical musical events is the official Salzburg tourism website. They have lots of information about concerts and a complete schedule of classical music events (along with a lot more). https://www.salzburg.info/en/events/classical-music

For example, they have information on concerts held at Mirabell Palace - https://www.salzburg-palace-concerts.com - and there are many other venues and musical events available.
