What are the best ways to look for live concerts (mostly classical, but I'm open to local genres of music as well) while we (husband and I and daughters ages 17-10) are visiting? We'll be near Salzburg Dec. 21-26.
Whenever I am travelling, I google "classical concerts" for wherever I am. The other route is the "Time Out" website.
I also find the hotel front desk to be an absolute treasure trove of intel.
Great advice above all. See also: Tourism Board plus sub-Reddit for the town/area of your destination.

You'll be too late for the main festival, but you should seriously plan to visit Oberndorf. Contact them for music plans during your stay.

The "Heavenly Sounds" are concerts where festive Christmas music is played from the balconies of the nave. They take place on Saturdays at 6 pm and last 40 minutes.
When traveling, I often look at the websites of the music conservatories in the various cities as I enjoy going to student recitals as well as professional concerts. December is probably not the time for that to work, however.
In addition to everything above, many churches will have concerts; the ones that are
"for profit" can be viewed on classictic or other websites.
But I would wander by either the tourist office or the various churches (or both) when
you arrive, and you may find other concerts that are not advertised online as widely.
Finally, consider going to a service where there is music.
This is all such wonderful help. Thank you!
