We will be flying into Munich from Atlanta and are looking for a unique overnight stay about 2 hrs out of Munich heading to Vienna the next day? Also any suggestions of stays in Vienna for 2 nights. We will have a car so don't need to be by a train station. Traveling the last week of April

Time of year would help. So woould be your starting time for the drive. But if its during warmer and dryer wearther Salzburg or Hallstatt would be worth considering.

Salzburg would be fine, but do not try to stay in the old city center where driving and parking is a mess. Same is true for Hallstatt, in addition to that it is considerably out of the way to Vienna.
Finding a hotel in Vienna should not be a problem, but choose one having a garage.

The obvious choice is Salzburg.
You do not want a car in Vienna. No one drives a car here to get around on a daily basis. I've lived here for 18+ years and never had a car. Ditch the car.

Parking is easy in Hallstatt. They stop you at the edge of town, make you park there, and make you take out a loan to pay for the parking fee.

Thank you all. I guess I should add that when we leave Vienna we will be making a clockwise trip thru Austria and ending back in the Salzburg area before flying out of Munich. We will more than likely park the car for the time we are in Vienna. Just hoping for a suggestion for a nice overnight between Munich and Vienna for an afternoon of strolling thru a small village before dinner and crashing for the night. Hallstatt may or may not be in the mix. Have read about all the buses unloading for the day. If we go we will spend the night to see the real beauty of the town.
