Munich to dachstein-salzkammergut

Hi I will be in Munich for business trip and I am planning to go to Hallstat and dachstein-salzkammergut for a one day trip on a weekend. Is the nearest station Obertraun? What is the best economical way to reach there? Thanks in advance!

It is a long way for a day trip from Munich, about 4 hours each way on the train. You'd have about 7 hours there maximum if you left at 7:30. 130.40 euro is the standard round trip fare, although you can get it for less with a nonrefundable non-changeable fare if you bought now.
The Hallstatt station is actually across the lake from the town so you need to take a ferry. Obertraun is the next and last stop on the rail line from Attnang-Puchheim.

Hi thank you for the reply! I will leave very early in the morning in this case. I just read that taking the bus is faster than the train. It seems that I have to take 150 from Salzburg to Bad Ischl, then 542 to Hallstatt Gosaumühle and finally 543 to Hallstatt Lahn. But the website didn't indicate the price. Is one ticket valid for only one bus trip or for all 3 bus trip? I plan to walk around Hallstatt before going to Dachstein visitor Center to take the cable car up to 5 fingers. Is it walking distance from Hallstatt?

In my experience (I did that trip, with a stopover in Mondsee, in 2009), you buy a ticket on each bus for that bus's route.

In 2009, the fares (in euro) were,

Salzburg - Mondsee 5,60
Mondsee - St. Gilgen 2,90
St. Gilgen - Bad Ischl 4,70
Bad Ischl - Lahn 4,10
Total 17,30

I imagine Salzburg direct to Bad Ischl would be less than I paid for 3 legs. The bus station for Hallstatt is in Lahn, about a km south of town along the lakeside road. It's at the south end of the tunnel that bypasses Hallstatt and near the parking lot for Hallstatt, at the start of the pedestrian zone.
