Concerts in Salzburg and Vienna

We'll be in Salzburg over Dec 24-26. I found a concert at Mirabell Palace for the 26th that will work well with our schedule. Would this be a good quality concert? My son is a music major and I think it would be really amazing for him to attend a concert where Mozart performed!

I'm also looking for ideas for a concert in Vienna. We'll be there Dec 27-31, so I think our options are limited and I think I heard some concerts are more tourist traps.

I guess this is a trip this year? The Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's concert would be a great choice, but it is too late to enter the lottery for this year. But maybe consider Hofburg Orchester's New Year's concert?

(I should note that I don't know how the pandemic has affected the concerts.)

For Vienna 12/30 and 12/31 " Lady in the Dark " by Kurt Weill , and the classic New Year confection, " Die Fledermaus " by Johann Strauss II . A matinee and evening performance . At The Volksoper , stunning productions with a great orchestra .

We attended a concert at Mirabell Palace back in August 2019 and it was incredible. Would highly recommend. Pay extra to get seats up front.

Thank you, all! Yes, we are going this year- so bummed we missed the opportunity to try to get a ticket with the Vienna Philharmonic Symphony. That would have been an experience for sure!

I'll look at the other concerts listed. I appreciate the recommendations!

The chances of you getting a ticket to the Philharmonic New Year's Concert would have been about zero anyway, so don't let that bum you out.

You have two chances to see Tosca at the Opera House in Vienna on December 27 and 30 (http://www.wiener-staatsoper.at/)

On December 28 and 29, the Silvester: Straus Festival Orchestra at the Vienna Konzerthaus (http://www.konzerthaus.at/)

Also on December 28 and 29, the very excellent Tonkünstler-Orchester Niederösterreich will give a New Year's Concert at the famous Musikverein (http://www.musikverein.at/)

On December 30 and 31, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra and the Vienna Singing Academy will present Beethoven's 9th Symphony in the Vienna Konzerthaus (http://www.konzerthaus.at/).

The rest of the options you will find on the website of the Vienna Tourist Board are very touristy with costumes, etc...

True, the chance of winning the possibility to buy tickets to the Wiener philharmoniker's concert is close to zero. I know, I've tried a few times. But if you're not taking part in the lottery, the chance is exactly zero.

Badger - I agree but I just didn’t want the OP to think they’d missed out on something (unless they are famous or an Ambassador, of course).
