Meriden regional train from Salzburg to Munich

I have a rail jet ticket for 9:10am tomorrow from BudaPest to Munich but the train only goes to Salzburg because the border is closed.

We were told that we would simply get off the Rail Jet train, show our passports and get in a regional Meriden train to Munich.

When we checked in Budapest at the rail jet customer service information, they just said they go just to Salzburg. We then asked a train conductor and he said the same thing.

I believe they only know about their train and we do know it stops in Salzburg and it's not their issue on how to get to Munich even though we have a ticket to Munich.

I have checked all websites and this forum so I hope someone has just done this and can help me.

I will report back on what happens as one way or another, I will be in Salzburg. I did talk to someone at the Crown Plaza in Salzburg that is close to the train station and he said as far as he knows, no one is getting stuck in Salzburg.

Any help would really be appreciated as always!

There are explanations on the oebb.at and db.de websites, but they're in German.

It says exactly what you were told:

You'll be directed to a Meridian train in Salzburg and there will be a passport check.

Check out the schedule and you'll see the Meridian trains with a 1 in the black box are the ones that continue past Freilassing on to Munich: http://ftp-pv.oebb.at/mcc_stoerung/notfall/2015/2015_11/Fahrplantabelle%209.11.2015.pdf

If you do a search Salzburg to Munich on db.de, it shows the cancelled trains and then a corresponding Meridian train that departs about 15 minutes after cancelled train.

The best place for train schedules and information from the Bahn is at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en.

That site will show you what normally scheduled trains are cancelled (basically all express trains - RJ & EC), as well as information about trains that are running. It says that you will have to go through passport control at the Hbf in Salzburg and recommends arriving early for your train. If you are just passing through Salzburg Hbf, I guess you will just go through passport control and catch the next available Meridian train (they run hourly).

The Meridian regional train worked so if anyone encounters border closures between Salzburg and Munich, it is an inconvenience but I was not stranded.

Thank you for those that assisted me.
