Maurach or Pertisau for Achensee views/character in June?

Does either of these win hands down for scenic views, plenty of eateries, access to beach, transport links (I know Jenbach is main hub) and atmosphere for couples relaxation holiday? Or even Buchau?

Looking to book 7-10 days (no car) in a very traditional Austrian self catering chalet with stunning views from a hillside maybe 10-15 mins walk from the lake, so walkable access to grocery store would be ideal. Also the cog railway, boats and gentle walks up the hillside for views as opposed to hiking.

Thanks for your thoughts! Am wondering too how these villages compare to St Gilgen and St Wolfgang, if anyone has also been to that Lake too. Is this Lake vibe much quieter ?

Maurach and Pertisau are not like St Gilgen and St Wolfgang. They have no Altstadt. I have stayed in both, but have returned several times to Pertisau. There is good bus service in Pertisau and to Maurach. Pertisau has a small Dorfladen. You would have to go to Maurach for a bigger store. You can swim from both in the Achensee. The Tirols Sport & VitalPark with Schwimmbad and beach opened a few years ago in Maurach. There are several lifts in the surrounding area. From Pertisau is the Karwendel-Bergbahn and from Maurach the Rofan Seilbahn. You can get into the Naturpark Karwendel to the west directly from Pertisau. There are some huts and small hotels there in the Karwendeltäler. The lake boats dock in Pertisau and around the lake. There are many restaurants to choose from. I go back to Via Pasto and Café-Pension Erika. Not sure you will find a self-catering chalet with stunning views from a hillside in Pertisau or Maurach. I have stayed in varying places. I have never stayed here, but would like too someday. I would make reservations soon. http://www.landhaus-achental.at/ Maurach is on the main road. Pertisau is a Holiday resort area with large hotels and can have some special events from time to time.

Very helpful indeed, thank you, and that place in the link looks lovely. Have you ever swum in the lake in late June?! Brienz in Switzerland is a cold lake too (but stunning) so it wouldn't be the first time, but I just wonder how bearable it is?!

Also, do Pertisau restaurants serve after 9pm and bars open happily til 11pm, or is it an early finish all round (typical of rural Austria!)? Just hoping for a sense of atmosphere in the summer evenings and not a complete shutdown!

I have never swum in the Achensee, but have seen many people do it. It's cold. A quick check and water temp highs are 19-20C in June. I don't think you will find many restaurants with a warm kitchen open past 21:30. I have been in a few of the hotel bars late (Hotel Post am See and Hotel Karwendel). I would not call Pertisau a "Rural Area." It is a Holiday Resort & Recreation Area. People go there for vacation.

St. Gilgen and St. Wolfgang are historic villages on a lake which attract a lot of day tourists. Maurach and Perisau are resort areas with hotels.
